Good question.

If life and ensoulment are synonymous, then I must look at a fertilized egg in a petri dish and declare it a living soul with all the eternal ramifications of that declaration.

I have taught that life begins at conception, and that, as Christians, we should value that life and hold it sacred. My point, in my earlier post, was to say that there are people of faith that disagree with that perspective.

I am quite dogmatic on the conception position until I look into the petri dish, and then I question whether implantation is a more valid marker. The problem with the implantation position is that it opens the door to methods of birth control with which I am not particularly comfortable.

Another interesting point that I came across is the fact that identical twins are not formed until the fertilized egg divides at approximately 14 days. If that is the case, do identical twins share a single soul, or do they receive their souls at conception or at the moment of separation?

The issues are quite complex, but I think that holding to the principle of the sanctity of human life as a guiding light will lead us to truth.

I can't wait until we move from stem cell research to euthanasia, the new frontier for Canada's looney left.

And if the embryo didn't consist of living cells, well, division wouldn't be occurring. Cells are the basic unit of life, the smallest unit that is capable of life function. The first time the fertilized egg divides - it's life (to me personally) because at the point, it starts to develop, to grow and will continue to grow and then differentiate.

I think we have to bring in the point of viability and potential too. Embryos created outside the womb - yes they have great potential BUT they will never be viable life until implanted. Even so, not all fertilized eggs are going to continue to develop because unless they implant, they'll never grow - whether embryos have been created through in vitro fertilization or not. So.. as far as embryos that sit in a lab grow, yes, I believe they should be treated with the utmost respect.

At some point, I'll probably share my actual full thoughts on the matter - not just points or opinions.. but yes, I believe in the sanctity of human life. And that as well, translates differently too.

Excellent.

I will be looking forward to your insights.

You're an example of why we need young people to pursue higher education. The Bible will guide us to answers, but, in this complex day, we need people to help us understand the questions.

Good afternoon.

So, what do you think of the Queen's "look?"

I think that the only thing that needs updating is the prescription in somebody's bifocals.

The thing about opinions...we all have them and who is to say that one is more right than another. It's all a matter of perspective...
