When did Jonah speak something from the Lord that didn't come to pass? Are you speaking of his running from his calling as being a failure? Is that how you are failing?

I accept the confessions made here that in apostolic circles, there are no officially acknowledged modern-day prophets. I also freely confess my ignorance about the prevalence of Spiritual gifts throughout most of the Church Age. Nevertheless, I expect a dramatic resurgence of the gifts at the end of time.

That was poor phrasing on my behalf. You are absolutely correct it didn't literally happen, but Jonah did speak what he was told to speak. God just happened to see the city's repentance and changed His mind.

So describe for me what it means to be a prophet in training; one that often fails. What exactly does that look like?

One false prophesy and there you have a false prophet. I believe Ehud knows this but there is no such thing as a prophet in training. You are either one or your not.
