I didn't survive Mary Lou Myrick. Bless her heart, I'm sure she knew her stuff, but I couldn't get it.

Good night!

I'll hook you up to my blog where I wrote about the missing portion of I John 5:7 that was supposed to be translated, "For there are three persons that bear record in heaven." Oneness militants that worked for King James went in AFTER the work was done and removed that word, knowing that someday the absence of the word "persons" would spawn an entire generation of apologetic conferences.

I doubt she is still around to translate and I also doubt that the UPC has many others to offer that spent as much time with the Greek text as she did over the years.

I am not saying we read nothing else but it should be done. It is a responsible thing to do IMHO.
Given the past methodologies that were accepted as "scholarship" by the Oneness Movement, I share some of the trepidation of the others about any proposed "Oneness translation."

Grossly sloppy errors and outright fabrications were and still are embraced. The level of education when it comes to the Creation debate is so dismal that several outright frauds are making a living teaching mindless drivel in place of real science and the Word of God.

The whole movement is fraught with dopiness.

However, there simply is no one to my knowledge who is capable of even steering a committee on the matter of Bible translations. I think the point is pretty moot. The Oneness community can't even get the subject of granny's knickers ironed out. What makes anyone think it's matured to the level of attempting a Bible translation?

I used to sell Bibles to this movement. Don't even get me started.

Did the 1611 KJV with the Apocrypha sell well?

LOL. No.

People would always ask for "the original King James" (a NKJV had recently been published). To move things along you'd just show them one of the standard revisions from 1850, and bite your tongue.

A lot of folks were asking for a "King James in Spanish" at that time. Apparently the Spanish language had just been invented in the late 1970s and so suddenly OPs were scurrying to evangelize these new speakers.

The conversations were always dreary. A "King James in Spanish? But the King James is an English translation. Perhaps you are looking for a Spanish Bible?"

"Yes! But I want a King James Version in Spanish."

"Well, King James being an English king and all, and England in fact being at war with Spain at the time, I really don't think the Authorized committee prepared anything in the Spanish language back in the 17th Century."

"Huh?"

"Here's a Reina-Valera version. It's very popular among Protestant Spanish speaking people..."

"NO! I want a KING JAMES IN SPANISH!"

"uhhh... 'Reina-Valera' is Spanish for 'King James.'"

"Why didn't you say so in the first place?"

I did, every time after that.

Bump. Just wanted to refocus this thread as it got a little sidetracked last night. The topics of the apologetic conference will be on

Problem of Evil,
Existence of God,
Inspiration of Scripture,
Oneness of God.

Debates nightly to be held at Eastview United Pentecostal Church, pastor David Hunt. DVD and Audio, Books, etc. will be available. These sessions are intended to search the riches of God, His Word, creation and Truth.
