I think Palin should do fellow conservatives a favor, and stay out of the race. She can help campaign for others, and that would be helpful.
I disagree.

In fact, it is my opinion that her stepping down, though unorthodox, is going to be the road that takes her to the White House......... in 2016.

Re: Sarah Palin announces she will resign

I know that this will be chalked up to the media attacking, but now the circumstances surrounding her suddenly quitting Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation when she was the Commisioner of the three person panel (and when they were already one person short). are coming up.
From 2004:
Palin said it was hard to do her job with potential civil penalties hanging over her head if she talked about what went on at her agency. She said the experience was taking the "oomph" out of her passion for government service and she decided to quit rather than becoming bitter.

Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission Chairwoman Sarah Palin said Friday she is resigning amid frustration that she is being forced to keep silent about ethics allegations against Republican Party of Alaska chairman Randy Ruedrich.

"I'm forced to withhold information from Alaskans, and that goes against what I believe in as a public servant," Palin said in a Friday interview.

Republican Gov. Frank Murkowski appointed both Ruedrich and Palin to the state commission last spring. In November, Ruedrich resigned the $118,000 commission job in the face of mounting criticism that his job and his party position presented a conflict of interest.

As a top party official he was raising political funds from the same industries he regulated as a commissioner. In addition, allegations surfaced that Ruedrich was doing party business while he was on the state job as an oil and gas commissioner.

Palin has deflected numerous questions from the press about the Ruedrich affair in recent weeks. The Alaska Department of Law has told her that she cannot talk about the ethics allegations against Ruedrich, even after she resigns.

Palin said frustration over the gag order made her conclude it was time to quit, but she said it wasn't the only reason. She wouldn't detail what else contributed to her decision.

She said her last day on the $122,400 job will be sometime next week.

She can't hold her own in a debate, nor articulate through the issues, except for rehearsed sound bytes, and bumper sticker conservativism. If Newt, Romney or Jindal go against her in a primary, she won't stand a chance. I don't see her winning a General Election, which is reason enough to back away from her as a candidate.

I would back Palin if she were more articulate. I'm done with Republicans who say key phrases that cause ecstasy with the base, and later we find out that the candidates don't know anything about conservatism. Idealism must be broken down and put into application.

Nope. She has very little political experience and would be shredded in the primaries for a) lack of experience and b) giving up and dropping out as governor halfway through her first term in office.

She's done.

As for the 2016 date ... BHO won't have a 2nd term. 2012 will bring either a new Democratic President or Republican President, but people will find that BHO not only won't hold to his campaign promises, but he will bankrupt the country with his massive spending spree.

Well I personally watched her interview with Wolf Blitzer.

She did very well-- and it didn't appear staged. neither did Blitzer appear like he was gunning for her.

In fact, no one ever appeared like they were gunning for her, during an actual interview, but I digress.

She did very well on the last interview and this will not be the lastt hing we hear abut this politician. She will attempt to run for office in 2012, hoping to be picked up as a VP.

If that does not work, we will see her again in 2016.

If the Lord hasn't returned by then.

Barring a natural catastrophe that pinpoints something that his Administration as either causing or allowing, President Obama will not face a Democratic challenger and will defeat any Republican challenger.

Who do we have-- Jindal? Or maybe you're still counting in that SC guy?

......spare me.

Oh I know, let's find some old and almost dying former movie star or televison sit com liberal who has a guilty conscience who suddenly decides to be the "redeemer" for the GOP!

We always criticize Hollywood with one side of our mouth and turn to Hollywood in the next breath....

again, spare me.

BHO will have a Democratic challenger, his spending spree and tax increases will cause his approval ratings to crash worse than W. Moderate Congressional Democrats will become uncomfortable and buck against his spending/tax bills, wrecking havok and causing headaches for him and the Dem leaders.

As far as Republicans ... not sure yet, though Palin and the SC Governor shouldn't run and if they do, won't make it past the primaries.

Not sure what you're ranting about with Hollywood and whatever ...

Again, BHO gone in 2012. That is, if we still have a general election then.

Exactly. Why in the world would anyone elect a woman to be President who could only handle 2 1/2 years as Gov. one of the most obscure states in the country? I mean seriously?

Let's call a spade a spade. If Sarah Palin can't handle being Gov. of Alaska for 4 years, God spare us the day she ever deals with the Presidency of the U.S.

Now if she quit not because of the pressure and issues and just because she wanted to get a head start on fundraising and press exsposure, I can understand that more. It was the wrong decision and she'll never get off the ground for 2012 because of it, but I'd understand it more so than just running from the pressure of being Gov. of America's least populated state.

Re: Sarah Palin announces she will resign

Palin probably has a very lucrative deal in the works, aside from her book. She retired just like Joe Scarborough - for his family - and will rebuild herself, get more knowledgeable, powerful and move up further.

And I find it very interesting that Newt Gingrich, as far as I can see, has not commented - Hmmmmmm - What's up with that? Very surprising.

Re: Sarah Palin announces she will resign

From American Thinker July 7, 2009

Crazy like a(n arctic) fox
Robert Zafft

Here's the calculus on Sarah Palin's decision to resign -- and it's elementary:

1. Don't resign

a. Bankrupt family defending self from bogus ethics allegations

b. Accomplish nothing as governor since Democrats have vested interest in blocking any progress

c. Remain butt of every liberal pundit/comic/feminist with constraints of public services preventiving effective means to fight back

d. Fail to influence national policy at a critical time due to pressures of office and Alaska's geographical remoteness

e. Be in poor position for 2012/2016 Presidential race because of the above

2. Resign

a. Give Lt Governor chance to use incumbency for 2010 election

b. Let Alaska move forward by removing Democrat incentive to block progress

c. Make family financially secure through speaking fees, books and punditry

d. Use media platform to advance policies that matter personally, develop reputation for deep understanding of national-level issues (economic, foreign policy), and use media platform to go on the offensive against opponents and enemies

e. Play 2012 kingmaker role by consolidating and delivering GOP base, speaking and raising money for candidates ("Mitt, let's make a deal.")

f. Use kingmaker role in 2012/2016/2020 to win prominent, substantive national role (VP, Energy Secretary), establishing a national-level track record and creating an option for Presidential run in 2016/2020/2024 while still in political prime

g. If (f) doesn't work out, enjoy being the next Rush Limbaugh -- after all, living well is the best revenge.

For most, candidates, public office is the logistical base from which they operate.

By giving up the Alaska governorship, Palin has no public office base for her opponents/enemies to attack.

Many might deride Palin, but no one should underestimate her.
