By what power can we truly love on another?
Only by the Power of the Holy Ghost... God's Spirit in us...
How does the abused forgive the Abuser and love them?
How does the good return good for evil and still love them?
How does man do that?
The Goodness of Man? or the love of God thru His work in Man's Heart?

After reading this chapter (which I know very well) what difference does it make then? Don't we make it a pretty big deal about needing...demanding that we hear others speak in an unknown tongue in order for us to judge wheither they are Spirit filled or not?
Just curious.

14For if I pray in an unknown tongue, my spirit prayeth, but my understanding is unfruitful.
15What is it then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will pray with the understanding also: I will sing with the spirit, and I will sing with the understanding also.
16Else when thou shalt bless with the spirit, how shall he that occupieth the room of the unlearned say Amen at thy giving of thanks, seeing he understandeth not what thou sayest?
17For thou verily givest thanks well, but the other is not edified.
18I thank my God, I speak with tongues more than ye all:

9Parthians, and Medes, and Elamites, and the dwellers in Mesopotamia, and in Judaea, and Cappadocia, in Pontus, and Asia,
10Phrygia, and Pamphylia, in Egypt, and in the parts of Libya about Cyrene, and strangers of Rome, Jews and proselytes,

was Paul talking about a heavenly language here? And if so how is that supported by scripture.
We know that in the synagogue they read then Ancient/Prophets/Hebrew to the unlearned and for that purpose they neede a translator.
Jewish Scolars called him a meturgeman.

If we agree what are we proving?
Get somebody here who don't agree...

Really, that is my point, no one ever said in the Holy Word of God that tongues was given to classify whether folks could be part of the organizational movement.
When folks of a different stripe are asked if they have the holy ghost, and they say they have spoken in tongues but do not have the outward standard accoutrements we insist they do not have the Holy Ghost because we haven't heard them and their outward appearance does not suggest they know truth.
Tongues is a deeply personal experience that shouldn't be anyone's business.

You know what on second thought I do not agree with you.
Peter was just showing Jews sometning they could understand. They were already baptizing and envoking the name of the priest who did the baptism. JUdaism was apostate and he was instructing them to follow Jewish custom with a new purpose. The authority of Jesus Christ.
Where is it supported that they rec'd tongues?
Paul and Peter were on 2 totally different pages with tongues.
