Re: An Angel Highway?

There is a huge difference between a "heretic hunter" and a heretic (besides the obvious one of one supposedly being the hunter and the other, the prey) and that is the heretic hunter is after those with different idea's and theory's about things. For instance those targeting Galileo or Martin Luther for their new ideas which came to light through modern research and study. The true heretic (in my very humble opinion) is the person who receives a vision, aka Joseph Smith, and proceeds to preach it as truth.

I would have NO problem with LS having personal opinions on angels -I have opinions too, (and HMH for that matter) and would in fact love to discuss it around a dinner table or in a living room but I do have a HUGE issue with him weaving doctrine around said beliefs. This is how men like Joseph Smith, Jim Jones, and other infamous "leaders" get their start.

That doesn't really answer the question. I assumed you would have an example from experience.

Ah, you agree with someone who was led to this conclusion through subjective spiritual experience, i.e., a mystic? LOL

Let's get to the heart of the matter... what specifically is it about Stoneking's teaching that bothers you most?

His reliance on personal feelings and his tendency to over-dramatize personal experiences (for instance, the Lord choosing to bring HIM back from the dead in a miraculous fashion) and making them into matter-of-fact doctrine.

And his "message" which has not changed for years -complete with speaking in tongues at the same point every time it is preached.

I don't consider that mystical. You said the same thing that Luke 11 was trying to convey.

I'm assuming this person is outside of themselves in Romans 1:28 "And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;"

or

1 Corinthians 5:5 "To deliver such an one unto Satan for the destruction of the flesh, that the spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus."

An over emphasis on such things as angels and HMH while teaching the details as facts instead of opinions.

But which aspect of his teachings in the sermon excerpt would you say are blatantly false? Specifically?

Ok Mizpeh, despite the difficulty, I listened to hear this story you're referencing. My answer is pretty simple, actually. I don't believe it. It's either made up or he's delusional. Come on, seriously, you're way more solid in God's word than this, Mizpeh. Our angels look like us???? Seriously??? Barnes' angel stayed in the hospital room all night and looked like Barnes?? How in this world can any UPC...or anyone....give this nut an ounce of credibility?
