It's too late brother...... All men are lost....
I think it should be a sin to have nose and ear hairs........ Those are the ones we should be worried about!

Re: How Often Must a Man Shave to be Saved?
When did it become the norm for men to have shaved faces? Our pioneer forefathers had beards. When and why did shaving become so popular?
eta: I was just looking at the pictures of the Presidents of the USA. The first presidents didn't have much, if any, facial hair until Abraham Lincoln. From Lincoln until Woodrow Wilson in 1913, most of the presidents had a significant amount of facial hair, most of them had beards, some of them had bushy beards! After Wilson, very few presidents had any facial hair at all.
So how did we get to the place from "it's very normal and acceptable for a man to have a beard" to "if you have a beard you're a hippie?"

About the time many started spending more time and focus on picking eachother apart, rather than giving "the world" Jesus, would be my 1st guess.

wasn't it around the time of the hippie movement...... long hair and long beards were signs of rebellion, if I remember.... So men didn't want to be associated with that so they started shaving!
I think that's what I heard........
wait, that's what you just said....... I didn't see the last part of your post! lol

Re: How Often Must a Man Shave to be Saved?
From looking at the lists of presidents, and other pictures from that time period, it had become a cultural norm for men to shave before the hippie movement. I just wonder why.
There were other time periods in history, also, where men shaving was the norm. Obviously, since George Washington was clean shaven (with a pretty wig ).
I just think it's interesting. I wonder why men started shaving, period. Seems like such an unnecessary hassle.
(and just to stir the pot - it's interesting that preacher's insist that men must follow the cultural norms, but not women )

My theory... I ran across a business dress code for office workers in the 1920's once. It included the "no facial hair" and even the "no open toed shoes."
I think someone just ran off a mimeograph of that list a handed it out at church one day. It was a simple and easy way to get folks from a variety of backgrounds to line up (and clean up?) the appearances without singling any one person out.
The simplicity was the main selling point and it caught on.

Re: How Often Must a Man Shave to be Saved?
Beards went out of style after the future Edward VIII became Prince of Wales and heir presumptive during WW1. It was entirely a style thing, kind of like what John Kennedy did to men wearing hats.
Pentecostals were so hungry to be accepted at the time that they seemed to have gone out of their way to conform and insist that "their people" not look like they had "come from the wrong side of the tracks."
We've been beating one another down with these same insecurities ever since.
