If this is the case, then the T.V. itself is fine, but the content is not. By this reasoning, we should be preaching against books stores. The store itself is ok, but the content is both good and bad. Add to that list radio (t.v. without the pictures), newspapers, internet, ..... school ...... life ......
I think it's a shame to split over such a trivial thing. But, I suppose a split would lessen the dissension between the people on both sides. If you don't fellowship with them, you can't fight with them right? Outta sight, outta mind, imo, really only works in non-Christian situations. The problem still remains, we just don't address it.
(Sorry if this doesn't fit into the thread properly, I'm kind of new here, looked like a good spot to jump in )
With that sort of reasoning, you can't draw the line about anything. Sometimes, the spiritual community decides on things for the sake of everyone. That's what parents do for a family. That's what leaders to for the community. It doesn't always match every litmus test, and pass the mustard of popularity with everyone. It's just what is thought to be best. This medium has long been argued for decades. I'm almost certain, as has been posted at AFF many times, this split wasn't primarily over just television either. It was more broad and general than that. Nevertheless, it will probably always be known as the "TV Split" due to the sheer nature of how and when it all occurred.

We are admonished to workout our own salvation with fear and trembling. How does you or someone behind a pulpit telling me how to live equate to me working out my own salvation? It might be a conviction that someone has against tv or watching tv, but the truth is Bro/Sis that the tv is not the devil. The interenet is a million times worse. Tv is not all wholesome either, but you workout your salvation with fear and trembling. By the way shouldn't the spiritual community preach against McDonalds,, Wendy's and all places like that cause they are not healthy and can cause damage to ones health and kill them? Maybe the spiritual community should preach against EVERY THING now...wait seems like they already do...oh well.

As Paul said, such stands have their earthly merit. Nevertheless, they can lead to legalism and remove one's focus off of Christ.

No real problem exists over the use of "The Name" in everthing else done in the Church. Why then should there exist great controversy over the use of the "The Name of the Godhead" in water baptism?

Thank God for Bro. Booker and thank God the WPF left the UPCI. Truth is Bro. Booker is a good speaker, but the message in question is a great example of when a person preaches a personal opinion as a doctrine and proves how they seem to have their own agenda. I have nothing against Bro. Booker at all, but preaching like this does not edify the body it rips it apart, IMO

The New Testament church had to make many decisions about things as they continued. Acts 15 was just one of those. Paul, in his epistles addressing many issues. I understand what convictions are. There are some things the faith community makes decisions regarding. We agree, most of us, that wearing a bikini to church isn't appropriate for worship. Well, some leadership just draws the line at different places. The best thing to do, if it frustrates a man/woman, is to leave that church. But drawing up lines and standards, by itself, is far from legalism. I admit I've seen the legalist-type churches too. The other extreme are the "Jesus only sees the heart" crowd that throws half the NT out the window.

My Pastor preaches against TV. We don't believe the box is evil, as a box. We, as a community, have just made our judgement on that one particular issue. We remain UPC, we love our Pastor and we have revival. Our homes are sanctuaries and we respect the wisdom of our Pastor leading the best he can.
