Truth is you just wish you could go and be yourself, letting God deal with you Himself in His own way, without feeling like you're being judged based on your appearance every time you walk in the door.
I completely understand that...Have been there and gotten some nasty looks and snubs myself in the past, though no one had been bold enough to try to tell me how to live my life...
Well, at least not in person. There's always someone on the internet who seems to think they have all the answers for everyone though... as you well know.
I'm not invalidating your issues nor would I. I believe they are relevant. I would not be able to be part of a church that tried to control me either.
However, I certainly wouldn't consider a presbyterian church an option. They don't even have the Holy Ghost! Isn't there at least a nice spirit-filled assembly in the area?
This is where I'm at....
Though I don't agree with much of the standards I've had to ask my own self what is more relevant in God's plan for my life... Is my own pride and personal identity more relevant? Or are lost souls?
Last time I checked I was bought with a price -- that price being the blood of Jesus... I'm His ambassador -- not my own. An ambassador puts his own will on the line for the sake of his country.
God has put me in a place where the local church my family feels we can be fed and enjoy liberty in serving God is a standard-holding church. That the gifts that God has put in us can be fostered and used means everything to me.... Holding to standards is a small price to pay for that.
And, no... No one ever sat me down to try to convince me of this viewpoint. Anyone would have difficulty in trying to do that (just ask my husband). It came out through my own relationship with God.
I hope you get to a place where you can experience what you need from God. It's tough to walk in the desert. Too bad we can't get you to TN so you can be a part of the church Sherri and her husband pastor... I bet you'd like it there.
