I am a bit confused on the abortion issue. I read that Christie ran on a pro-life ticket in 2009. When did that change? . Jon Corzine was pro-abortion.

On gun-control: I'd want a little more detail on this.

Quote:
CHRISTIE: Listen, I favor some of the gun-control measures we have in New Jersey.

HANNITY: Bad idea.

CHRISTIE: Listen, we have a densely-populated state, and there's a big hand gun problem in New Jersey. Now, I don't support all the things that the governor supports by a long stretch. But I think on guns — certain gun control issues, looking at it from a law-enforcement perspective, seeing how many police officers were killed, we have an illegal gun problem in New Jersey.

HANNITY: Should every — should every citizen in the state be allowed to get a licensed weapon if they want one?

CHRISTIE: In New Jersey, that's not going to happen, Sean.

HANNITY: Why?

CHRISTIE: Listen, the Democratic legislature we have, there's no way those type of things — listen, at the end of the day, what I support are common sense laws that will allow people to protect themselves, but I also am very concerned about the safety of our police officers on the streets, very concerned. And I want to make sure that we don't have an abundance of guns out there.

Found this on Christy on Abortion

Abortion: Christie is personally against abortion: "I am pro-life. Hearing the strong heartbeat of my unborn daughter 14 years ago at 13 weeks gestation had a profound effect on me and my beliefs."[43] He has stated, with respect to his opposition to abortion, that he would not use the governor's office to "force that down people's throats", but does favor restrictions on abortion such as banning the procedure popularly known as partial-birth abortion, requiring parental notification, and imposing a 24-hour waiting period

Not sure. I do like Christie & Mike Pence too. Honestly I dont think that Obama will be that hard to beat. If the GOP fields ANY decent candidate willing to tackle the nation's mounting debt, I think he wins in a landslide.

Money has more to do with where your heart is than any other indicator. The love of it is the root of all evil. They love money in DC. They love power too but thats because with power comes money.

I can agree with Christie on this. He cannot go above the rule of law on the abortion issue. It's a moral issue and, IMO, you cannot legislate that.

Also, on the gun control issue, he did say that he was in favor of "some" gun control and that in NJ they have an "illegal" gun problem. So, I can't say that he is actually against gun control across the board. OnTheIssues.org has "no stance" for him, though.

But Pence and Ryan are rising stars.

PO didnt we have a conversation where I said niether has a chance because they are Members of the house and nothing else?

I still think that is a problem for both and Ryan is YOUNG.
We shall see though.

The jig isnt up for Obama to win in 2012 but it is now a close thing. he has 2 years to change the economy... it really will be about the economy.
But what would the Dems say, "He's young and lacks experience"?

If we really want to win this thing we need a scrapper in the 2012 fight - someone like Newt Gingrich and Fred Thompson. Unleash that duo and the Dems will be reeling for a decade.

With the upcoming pre-election attack on Iran set for late summer/early fall 2010, the Dems are going to feel re-energized and the Republicans are about to be caught completely unprepared unless they get ahead of this issue NOW!
Love Gingrich in a debate. The media will eat him alive for his affair while still married with the woman who is now his wife. You cant alienate the Christian conservative vote and win in the primaries or in the general election.

Fred Thompson by comparison to Obama is old and crotchity looking---and unfortunately, perception is everything to too many voters---think Bob Dole vs. Bill Clinton in 1996.

Paul Ryan has been exceptional in every interview and press briefing I've ever seen. The guy is sharp.

Deac, the Republicans have a natural "I told you so" issue on youth and inexperience. Running Ryan might (might) be a give up on that issue.

However, anyone with any since can argue that Ryan runs circles around Obama on the experience issues. he does have more than 120 odd days of actual experience in Congress.

As you can see from my other thread, We just dont elected members of the House to be President.

Re: The Great Republican Hope

Just a note on Ryan, I love the guy and many "in the know" say he is the smartest guy they know....which is saying something when you consider Newt and Bill Bennet are pretty sharp tacks.

Jindal is also a brilliant guy. His resume is second to none.
