Re: GR Travis Passed Away

What a beautiful picture. This man ministered to my heart several times when he was guest preaching in Illinois.

Re: GR Travis Passed Away

I been away from the computer the last few days, so I'm just now hearing this news.

I can't match Tim Landry's excellent post, but I do have a few great memories of this great man.

As a freshman at JCM, I took a liking to a certain 16-17 year old girl that went to that church. We were allowed to attend any UPC church in the area, so I talk three other guys into driving to Vicksburg every week that first year. One of the families in the church (Renee Clark's parents) would let us nap at their home between services. (Yes, we found a TV hidden in one of the closets! ha!)

Anyway, during this time I got to know Bro. and Sis. Travis pretty well. Bro. Travis was such a gentleman in how he treated us young JCMers. He knew that we had to drive quite a ways to attend, and always seemed so appreciative of our efforts.

About ten years ago, I ran into G.R. Travis at the GC when it was here in Nashville. He remembered me, and asked me where I was pastoring these days! ha! I told him that I was a good tithe-paying layman, but I didn't have the heart to tell him I didn't attend a UPCI church.

Bro. Travis made a wonderful impression on a young kid in 1975. My condolences to the Travis family.

It's a very good picture and one that I'm sure the family will cherish now!

His hair looks exactly the same, just gray.

I saw the whole family at Bro Craft's 70th Birthday celebration. Prayers of comfort go out to the family.

Blessings, Rhoni

What a great man of God! He left a wonderful legacy. Several of my close friends went to his church in Vicksburg when we were in Bible College, including Pianoman (Mr. Steinway) and my cousin. They all loved the Travis's and the Vicksburg church.

Bonita Prince remembers the night she begged her father, Glen Ray Travis, to put the moon back together again.

"When I was 3 or 4 years old, I looked up and saw the moon was just a sliver in the sky, and I said, 'Daddy, the moon's broke - fix it,' " she recalled.

Re: GR Travis Passed Away

A missionary we had years ago in our church gave me some tapes by GR Travis. Awesome messages!

Re: GR Travis Passed Away

I only lived in mississppi for a few months back in 1998, but during that time went to a men's conference and ran into bro. Travis, an awsome heart was inside him. He seems to have made a impression on many of us over the years. At that time I didnt' know who he was, only later did I find out what role he had played in the UPC. But just in a few mins of quiet conversation, he did make an impact on me.
