Michelle Obama steps out in $540 sneakers

"Michelle Obama has taken casual to a haute new level.

While volunteering Wednesday at a D.C. food bank, the First Lady sported her usual J.Crew cardigan, a pair of utilitarian capri pants and, on her feet, a sneaky splurge: trainers that go for $540. "

"Michelle has stepped out in Lanvin before while getting down to business. A week ago, she shoveled dirt at a tree planting while wearing the line's chiffon tank.

Dresses and strappy pumps cost upward of $1,500, while tops go for $400 to $1,000."

"
"They're shoes," the First Lady's reps sniffed when curious reporters inquired about the fancy footwear."

I hope it is her own money she used to buy these but even at that, in times like this I think that is rather ostentatious, and this at a food bank. Why didn't she give them the same amount in cash as she spent on her shoes?

Sorry but this kind of thing makes me sick no matter who it is.

Anyone else want to chime in with their opinion?

Re: Michelle Obama steps out in $540 sneakers

I seen this headline on my AOL homepage yesterday, but I didn't click on it.

No lie-this was the headlines on the AOL page when I signed on to the internet yesterday:

"BIG TAX HIKES COMING SOON:
Middle Class is About to Feel The Pain"

Two headlines down-
"First Lady Seen in $500 Sneakers"

Go figure.

I'm sure Laura Bush wore shoes from Walmart. And Hillary"s beautiful pant suits were from Target. Come on man, give the lady a break, these people are rich, they wear nice stuff, get over it!

Thats my chime,

1. Generally speaking, I don't care how other people spend their money--hopefully it is her money she's spending.

2. It is highly hypocritical for the press to give her a pass, considering how critical they were of Sarah Palin & Cindy McCain's duds.

Personally? If there's anything I would be tempted to drop big money on, it would be a pair of designer shoes. Haven't done it. But I would be tempted, if I had a spare $1000.

MM I understand what you are saying and I am usually one to not care but with all the fuss that was made by the media about others and their costs of clothes and then to do as MissBrat says and give her a pass on it. NO. That I have major problems with and NOT to volunteer at a food bank.
ON TOP of all the major issues about the economy right now. IT WAS IN VERY POOR TASTE.

I don't care for the Obamas, but I don't care how much she spends on shoes.

That's cool! I just gave my two cents. I didn't like what they did to Palin, but I don't like it in reverse either.

If ya gots some dough and wanna spend it on nice stuff, thats cool with me.

I don't really care that Michelle Obama bought a fancy pair of sneakers. I do agree that the press is being hypocritical, if they don't harass her about it. Especially since the economy is worse now than it was when Bush was in office, and when McCain/Palin were campaigning.

But girls love shoes. I understand that.

The press is being hypocritical, but what's new?

I don't get spending that much on sneakers, myself, though. Heels, yeah!
