MSNBC Retracts False Palin Story; Others Duped

NEW YORK -- MSNBC was the victim of a hoax when it reported that an adviser to John McCain had identified himself as the source of an embarrassing story about former vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin, the network said Wednesday.

David Shuster, an anchor for the cable news network, said on air Monday that Martin Eisenstadt, a McCain policy adviser, had come forth and identified himself as the source of a FOX News Channel story saying Palin had mistakenly believed Africa was a country instead of a continent.
Eisenstadt identifies himself on a blog as a senior fellow at the Harding Institute for Freedom and Democracy.

Yet neither he nor the institute exist; each is part of a hoax dreamed up by a filmmaker named Eitan Gorlin and his partner, Dan Mirvish, the New York Times reported Wednesday.
The Eisenstadt claim had mistakenly been delivered to Shuster by a producer and was used in a political discussion Monday afternoon, MSNBC said.

  4. That Jesus name baptism is the only biblical mode of water baptism.
  5. That the Holy Ghost is for today and is received by faith with the initial evidence of speaking in tongues.
  6. The saint will go on to strive to live a holy life, pleasing to God.

Great investigative reporting there. How long would it have taken to Google "Harding Institute for Freedom and Democracy" ? MSNBC can't tell the difference between fact and fiction.

Re: MSNBC Retracts False Palin Story; Others Duped

Ok, that's weird cuz I saw the Shuster report live when he reported it and he expressed great doubt about the veracity of the Eisenstadt claim and said he wondered if the person even existed because he'd never heard of the guy and said they'd have to check into it to verify it. Hmmm.....why would they retract that? He reported it as rumor and unverified and it turns out to be a hoax....I don't how that's reporting incorrectly cuz reporters do that sort of thing all the time.

The problem is that the networks are in such competition to scoop each other that they literally don't have time to verify stuff before they put it on the air for fear of being scooped by the other. It's what makes them gullible.

I don't think MSNBC did anything wrong here since Shuster reported it factually as unverified and possibly a hoax.

Perhaps FOX should retract all the anti-Palin things they've reported that are seeming to end up being false. Any news on that front?

I think it is because their agenda was to discredit Palin, the Media is/was much afraid of Palin changing the election.

I agree that they're not big fans of Palin, but I don't think it's because they're afraid of her. I think they just think she's naive and uninformed. Honestly, I've seen much better treatment of her on MSNBC than I have by many Republicans. Remember, it was Republicans that spread the trash talk about her, not the reporters. The reporters only reported what they were told. There is a definite bias against Palin on MSNBC, some of Fox, and CNN for sure. But I think it's just because she put herself out there and proved to be unready and not smart enough for national politics. For the most part they think (as do I) that she's certainly CAPABLE of rounding the learning curve, but that she ought to put her nose to the grind, appoint herself Senator to get some real experience, and get smart on the issues before she cames back up to bat again in the big leagues. She also needs to stop flying by the seat of her pants and get some good, smart advisors to help her hone her message because she doesn't communicate as clearly as she could. She leaves herself too open for misunderstanding. With a couple of exceptions, they've been pretty fair with her overall.

I am wondering about all those folks HERE that accepted this story as TRUE. Even when some of us questioned it they adamantly defended it

Don't hold your breath for that one, friend. Faux news may be a lot of things but they're never in doubt.

This is the worst media induced election I have ever experienced!!!! Now, she is being allowed to answer questions by interviewers. How strange she gets to speak now! No leading questions now. Just straightforward questions. Interesting how that works.
