What is your response to this?

If an agnostic directs a question pointedly and says,

"With so many gods and bibles and religions out there, why should I believe that yours is the right one?"

I really had no idea what to say and felt like an idiot. IS there an appropriate response that would help convince them?

Do you believe that yours is the right one? If so, why?

I guess good practice to be able to obey the following scripture...

1Pe 3:15 But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear:

Tell them your personel testimony.. what the Lord has done for you. And let them know how grand and glorious this Holy Ghost is!!

Ask them if you can give them a bible study.

Re: What is your response to this?

There are actually multiple responses to it, and I'm not really in a frame of mind to really shift into that mode right now, since there are various angles to approach this from.

But I highly recommend The Case For Christ, by Lee Strobel.

You can even pick up a used copy on Amazon for less than $3, plus shipping. When I bought mine, something in me felt like I was investing into my spiritual future. Turns out I was right. It's one of the best Christian books I've ever read.

I would agree with sharing your testimony, and if this person is around you much, your actions and fruit speak much louder than words.

I normally emphasize the baptism of the Holy Ghost with these types. Often a theological argument just pitches one theological school against another and the individual shrugs and says the argument is presuppositional; with one religion's word being against another's. But the baptism of the Holy Ghost is a supernatural experience that I have had and millions of others have experienced. I emphasize that once they receive the Holy Ghost, the Spirit of God will lead them into all truth. And as mentioned before, personal testimony and behavior will cause you to be seen as a cut above the rest.

Re: What is your response to this?

I tell such people that if there is a God, and I believe there most definitely is, then He is not sitting up in Heaven and acting dumb. He is someone to whom me can actually pray. He wants us to know Him. And if we pray to Him and truly seek Him to lead us to the truth amongst all the falsity in the world, HE WILL DO IT! It may take time, but He answers prayer. We cannot treat God as though he has no part in us finding Him. And we must trust in faith that HE WILL lead us. This is what I encourage all similar statements with.

Good idea.

When TL Osborn first went to the mission field he confessed he was a failure. Not one convert. He would try to preach to them but they would pull out their leather bound beautiful book and claim it was inspired. He had nothing to combat it with, he would quote the Bible and they would quote their Holy book. He returned to America and sought God with fasting and prayer. Jesus appeared to him and changed his life. When he returned to the mission field he had power to perform the works of Jesus, he would pray and Jesus healed the people. THEN THEY LISTENED TO him preach and would accept Jesus.

Our God answers by fire. Peoples lives are changed, healed and restored, filled with the HG. The best evidence for believing in JC.

Re: What is your response to this?

I would say, "why are you asking, could it be that the Lord Jesus is dealing with your heart?"
