Rising Costs

In the face of rising costs and no corresponding rise in income, what are you doing to cope?
cutting back on groceries?
cutting back on church/charitable giving?
attending church and other functions less often?
not putting as much in savings?
cutting back on social activities?
cutting back on eating out?
staying home instead of going on vacation?

Re: Rising Costs

cutting back on groceries? Spongin' off my brother-in-law.

cutting back on church/charitable giving? Pledging to TBN, just not following thru.

attending church and other functions less often? Attending church when I can (close to home) Other functions? Bro. on Sand Mountain in Alabama there are no other functions.

not putting as much in savings? I'm putting as much as ever in savings. None.

cutting back on social activities? No social functions here, unless ya count sittin on the front porch watchin' the occasional car go by.

cutting back on eating out? I eat out whenever I can get someone else to pay for it.

staying home instead of going on vacation? Staying at home IS my vacation.

Re: Rising Costs

Brother Sam,

We really, truly have been cutting back.

We have virtually no discretionary income because of gas prices.

Ok, this just sounds funny.

I'm moving across country (I guess that's a vacation of sorts?).

To a place with a slightly higher cost of living.

And possibly going off of state assistance all together, meaning I'll be buying my own groceries with cash vs foodstamps.

And doing more charitable giving.

And attending church more often, and driving further to do it.

AND probably saving more than I ever have before.

And increasing social activities.

I will try not to increase eating out (rare already).

I feel like I missed the memo about the economy.

Re: Rising Costs

I was in Ind a couple of weeks ago, gas was 3.45 a gallon.

Came home the next day, gas here was 3.06 a gallon. Glad to be in the south where I can almost afford to put gas in my car. Now, if we just had roads to drive them on.

What gets me is this: I went to Best Buy in Chattanooga to buy a DVD burner. The place was packed. People were buying like there would be no tomorrow. It was like the day after Thanksgiving. Every store was like that. I thought I read somewhere that there was something going on with the economy.

AMEN
You keep giving to God, you keep going to church to meet with others of like precious faith, you keep on keepin on.
Our God does not work inside our economy. He will supply our needs. No need to stop giving and doing your part for His kingdom. You can never out give God. EVER
I promise you. I have never known a time when money wasn't tight, every year we try to give more than the year before. Every year He blesses me more and more.
Our God does not work inside our concept of the earthly laws that we have to live by. He can supercede our laws whenever he needs or wants to.
look at His feeding of the 5000 with 5 loaves and 2 fish. He did not break any laws to cause that multiplication. He just superceded the laws to make it multiply. He created the world and all that is in it. He can supply and multiply anything at any time.
I also believe that it is times like this that our God likes to show up and show off.

Re: Rising Costs

I may cut back on a lot of things but never giving to God for as the man of God of long ago said, "For all things come from Thee, and from Thy hand we have given Thee."

I think I can say this and you know I am not asking for money. I have found the more I give to God´s little ones the more He gives to me. I do not give to get but it is HIS promise to bless us for giving to His work.

I live under great pressure and work among a people that are very poor. So that means everyday scores of people from all over Brazil call me telling me of their needs...and in some way I try to help. Sometimes it is overwhemling...the needs...Yet when I look at a beautiful church building right beside my house, look at my house I KNOW these blessings and many others have come because of giving to others.

Dear ones, I am not asking for your money please do not think I am. I am just telling you cut back anywhere you can but not from giving...for that is where blessings stem from...

I got a corresponding rise in income

cutting back on groceries?

I noticed this past Sunday that I can no longer button a pair of dress pants that I wore just last week. (get the picture)

cutting back on church/charitable giving?

That would defeat the purpose wouldn't it ?

attending church and other functions less often?

see above

not putting as much in savings?

Savings ? What am I saving for ? Can't take it with me.

cutting back on social activities?

Nope. Me and the wife still go fishing about every week.

cutting back on eating out?

Stopped that after I got married. They can't cook as good as my wife.

staying home instead of going on vacation?

Nope. A week on the lake fishing is pretty cheap.
