I am with Margie...

Why is it that a person has to give an excuse to the pastor's wife?? Is she the co pastor???

Now if the pastor see someone and ask about why they haven't been to church and lets them know he is praying for them, that is a horse of a different color.

Pressure on why they haven't come to church will run them off or make them feel like they have to offer some sort of excuse...maybe lie.

A good pastor doesn't put pressure on a saint that has missed church for any reason.

They trust the Word of God to do what He can do alone and pray. And they trust the power of the Holy Ghost to do his job.

That is if the saint is in fact in danger spiritually.

Many have this notion that missing 2 services equals being backslidden.

No where in my post did I say that a saint has to call and give the pastor's wife there excuse.

But when the phone rings and I am the only one home, I answer the Phone.
Or if the Pastor isn't able to answer the Church phone, there's times I had to answer it.

It's not about control, but about accountability. It is part of the fabric that keeps us close to the church and to the Lord. Just ask the AA people.

One story I heard was phoned in by the 13 year old son. "My mom's great aunt tripped over the coffee table, so we can't come to church tonight."

The same kid called another time to say they couldn't come to church because they had no chains for their tires. It was not remotely snowy or icy. Just a little nippy outside.

Sounds like we have some habitual church missers on the AFF. Real surprise there!

Pastors are caught between a rock and a hard place. If they don't ask why the saint missed, then they obviously don't care for the sheep. If they do ask, then they are harassing and controlling. It's tough, to be sure.

Most folks who have a legitimate reason for being out, such as sickness or emergencies, are more than happy to let the pastor know. It's those with a guilty conscience that get defensive.

The guilty flee when no man pursueth. Proverbs 28:1
