How would they be leading someone to hell? Did I miss something?

Re: How do you tell if someone loves the Lord?

Pointing people to Jesus Christ is leading them to hell? In your original post you said, "In Brazil she began telling the story of Jesus to people that had never heard of Jesus. She change the way these people lived."

You and I have no way of knowing the full impact her life and her sharing of Jesus Christ had on the people she sought to lovingly serve. Who knows but what there could be someone in Brazil this moment preaching an Apostolic message whose life was first turned toward God because of this person's devotion to sharing Jesus Christ with him.

IMHO we shouldn't be so harsh. It was Jesus Christ Himself who said in Matt.25:37-46......

"Then the righteous will answer him, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?'

"The King will reply, 'I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.'

"Then he will say to those on his left, 'Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after me.'

"They also will answer, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you?'

"He will reply, 'I tell you the truth, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.'

"Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life."

This is true. While preaching Bible truth is important, so is treating our fellow man important. We could go to church every day, preach until we have no breath left, and if we don't have love and concern for our brothers and sisters....and even strangers.....we don't have the love of God in us.

That is, according to Jesus......

1. How do we treat each other?
2. How much effort do we employ in getting as close to him as possible?
3. How busy are we building His kingdom?

Re: How do you tell if someone loves the Lord?

If we love the Lord we keep his commandments, the greatest commandment is to love. How do we know that we know him ?

1John.2
[3] And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments.
[4] He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.

Many don't receive what they ask for because they don't keep his commandment. And he that keepeth his commandments dwelleth in him.

1John.3
[22] And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight.
[24] And he that keepeth his commandments dwelleth in him, and he in him. And hereby we know that he abideth in us, by the Spirit which he hath given us.

1John.5
[2] By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God, and keep his commandments.
[3] For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.
2John.1
[6] And this is love, that we walk after his commandments. This is the commandment, That, as ye have heard from the beginning, ye should walk in it.

This is dear or perfected love. Many speak in tongues but don't have love.Very few people have perfected love.

1 Cor.13: 1: Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal.
2: And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing.
3: And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing.
4: Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up,
5: Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil;
6: Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth;
7: Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things
.

2Cor.7
[1] Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.

1John.2
[5] But whoso keepeth his word, in him verily is the love of God perfected: hereby know we that we are in him.
1John.4
[12] No man hath seen God at any time. If we love one another, God dwelleth in us, and his love is perfected in us.

So you are saying people love God without being obedient to the truth. If you preach the same message to people that the nun did that's love??????? If her love is so good why are we wasting money by sending it to Jesus name missionary's.

I expect this kind of response from pastor Tribble but not from you.

All the scripture you quote is written to the church and not to those that have not obeyed Acts2:38. How can you be a member of the Kingdom if you are not born into the Kingdom?

On second thought... This is one of those threads that just leave me scratching my head. RevDDW posted the answer to the thread question. "How can you tell if someone loves the Lord. Rev DDW quoted Jesus' answer. I must've miss something on this thread. So...I'll just go sit in a corner.

If we exhibit the fruit of the Spirit, that would be a good indicator.

The post was not about people in the truth. It's a given how can one love the Lord if he doesn't love his brother or sister. How can we say one loves the Lord when they will not obey truth?
