Quick question for the ladies....

For those of you who have really long hair...

What kind of curlers do you use?

My daughters both have very long, thick hair... and they love the look of the curls they get from hotsticks- BUT I know they are damaging their hair... because of the amount of hair that is coming out on the hotsticks when they remove them.

Any other options that aren't so damaging to the hair?

Don't curlers and other stuff just make the hair split faster?

They don't have a problem with splitting, because we all use conditioners and have very healthy hair. The problem is more of the curlers getting tangled up in the long hair and having to pull them out. That's where the damage to the hair comes in.

Okay, I don't have really long hair, but have they tried the velcro rollers. They aren't hot - just rollers that "stick" to your hair, but my daughter will still use a large bobby pin to hold it into place.

While her hair is still damp, she rolls it up in them and gets dressed, etc., blow dry just to make sure, then when you take them out the hair is curly and not damaged.

I've used them and they are great!

I use to have very very long hair (below my bottom) and it is very very thick!!
I always was a fan of the hot sticks because they would actually curl my hair and it would last. Regular velcro rollers or other rollers even hot ones would really not curl my hair very well and if it did put a little curl in it, it didn't last long because of it being so thick and heavy. But they do make curlers that are like hot sticks but not heated they bend and twist and they would curl my hair just as good as hot sticks with out the damage and also sponge curlers work well to get a tight long lasting curl. Last resort, Aussie 3-minute miracle conditioner is awesome. I still use that and love it and what it does to my hair.

I have really long, fairly thick hair and I get great results with hot rollers. You may need more than one set for a whole head of hair though.

I section it off in pretty thin pieces and use a little mousse...the curls last a little longer that way.

I've never been a fan of Hot Sticks...used them a long time ago, but I hated the way they made my hair frizz and the damage to my hair.
