How will God judge the Mentally Ill?

I was thinking about this today..... We preach the Gospel and everything it stands for... but How will God judge the Mentally Ill?

Autism.... Mentally Challenged...

Let's say a Minister is diagnosed with Alzhiemer's..and forgets who he is and every thing he's stood for?

What will the verdict in your opinion be?

I would prefer this to be thought provoking vs. just provocation ...

any answers?

I cannot imagine one who has never been capable of making a conscious decision from being sent to hell.... the scripture is silent on the matter thus I dont have a problem saying that.

I also cannot beleive that a person who has lost the mental capacity to make a conscious decision, can be judged for acting in an unchristian manner.

however, I do know of a fellow back home who grew up in my home church. He was saved at one point but somewhere in his late teens he got to messing with drugs. He is now clinically insane and from time to time, he is in the hospital or jail. very sad in deed. I do not know that he has the ability to make any decision for Christ, but even if not, he made his decision back in the late 70's.

It is almost like he has entered hell before he died. I pray that God delivers him.

I have often wondered about this. My husband has a type of autism (Asperger's syndrome) and one of the characteristics, is that they tend to have difficulty with figurative language, and reading between the lines. So they tend to take things literally. Therefore my husband has a lot of trouble understanding things like parables and symbolism. He also has a difficulty understanding emotion, and relating to other people, let alone God.

Some illness are brought on by human causes... such as drugs and seem to ruin the oppurtunity for the person involved with no hope (unless a Miracle takes place) of recovery...

But concerning Austism ..... mental handicap's.... and such... ???

Makes me wonder...

But God is a merciful Father...

You have hit the nail on the head. My husband struggles because he blames God. He believes that because God made him this way, then God should be held responsible.

I think that anger is a normal reaction of those who suffer....sometimes it comes from the enviroment of the past... Mom or Dad who also blamed God that they would be saddled with the kid...

10 points to Ferd.... one has to have the ability to make a conscious decision between right and wrong.... the same reason why a young child without developed reasoning skills cannot be lost....

Your husband is correct; God willingly holds Himself responsible. God can compensate for our physical/mental handicaps and weaknesses though....
