Re: Coming Soon! Genetically Modfied Human Organi

If you think it is a blasphemy do not use it. Nobodies taxes should pay for the research.
But not all Christians will agree with you. Some Christians and many non Christians will want to use the new technology.

I think people should think for themselves and not just jump on the bandwagon. The same argument of it is not right to play God has been used for decades when it comes to medicine.

I wonder how many of you actually read the whole article. There are two quotes below.

The experimental technique, if approved for use, would allow a woman to give birth to a baby who inherits her normal nucleus DNA but not her defective mitochondrial DNA.

The technique initially made headlines as a way to create babies with three parents, but scientists say that's an overstatement, since the child would have only trace bits of DNA from the donor.

No I do not want you to genetically modify my kids. I want the choice to be mine. I should choose whether to use the technology or not.

It is your choice to go to the doctor. It is also your choice to take your kids to the doctor.
How is this any different than not taking a child to the hospital?
your child should be living a healthy enough life that it shouldn't need to go to the hospital; defective people were killed OT because it was the most merciful thing to do all around. if that seems harsh, it is because one has not grasped God's definition of death, which is irrelevant to God on that level--we are carefully trained to fear death. that child got sick due to human influence, and its needing a hospital is a sign. i'm sure you will consider this a radical opinion; but it is not one that i have held my whole life, and have only recently come to this understanding. BAM, mix your genes, get a heart transplant, and take your child to the hospital to have various organs removed. but consider that you may be usurping God's will and design in this.

i heard my dad had a stroke about a year ago; mom says she saw half his face fall. they waited 3 hours to call 911 (i mean yikes, fish or cut bait). he's pretty slow getting around, but no drawn-up side v strong side, no slurred speech at all, etc. they waited so long bc he kept insisting he didn't have a stroke, which is not exactly Biblical, but his way of expressing that he was healed. my mom said his face was fine by the time the ambulance got there...i would rather have a relative stab me in the heart than go to one of those places, and get a dose of their witchcraft. Rockefeller monkeys all, imo, wadr, etc etc

Re: Coming Soon! Genetically Modfied Human Organi

Yes, I want a healthy child (when the time comes), but more importantly to me, I want the child to be a blessing from the Lord from the union between my wife and I.

Seriously, isn't there something abominable in the sight of God to directly involve a third person into the miracle of creating a life?

Then again, I don't think there is anything wrong with surrogacy or IVF or anyrthing else I've heard about designed to help bring healthy children to loving parents.

This topic makes me think and it's Saturday and I am not fully awake yet.

If I remember right, IVF involves fertilizing the eggs and then using some and freezing some. In other words, fertilized eggs may remain frozen or discarded. Are you okay with that?

Another ethical dilemna.
However, I am biased in my opinion as I know of a Missionary family who used this method in order to conceive. In fact, their procedures were paid for by someone else (but not through funds designated for the Mission field).

If I was married and my wife and I were unable to conceive through traditional means, I wouldn't be against IVF.

How about you?

I don't feel good about it. I never had any trouble conceiving at all, so it wasn't an issue for me. But I was on birth control for three years before I knew that sometimes fertilized eggs were dispelled without implantation because of the pill. I am past the stage of birth control decisions in my life but if I had it to do over and knew these things, I would try to intentionally choose something that wasn't rejecting fertilized eggs. I rejected the IUD for this reason. I did know that fertilized eggs were dispelled when that method was used.

Usually they take out a few eggs. So what if the woman used a gene from her own eggs and had it inserted in place on the bad gene on the egg that is being used? One woman with only her own genes & one man making one baby.

Re: Coming Soon! Genetically Modfied Human Organi

In the article they admit that the Headline was written to stir controversy.

Does a man that has a heart transplant all the sudden have two fathers? A person donates an organ to help someone else. This does not make them a father or mother of the recipient.

A person is not born yet but gets a donation of a non-cancerous gene. That one gene makes the unborn person have multiple mothers. This logic just does not add up.

Now if we start taking 50% of one egg and 50% from another egg and choosing what we want I understand how that is an ethical dilemma.

Not sure what I think about all that, but the Bible does say that as it was in the days of Sodom and Gomorrah, so shall it be in the days of the coming of the son of man.
That's genetically/scientifically impossible to have done for a primitive people

BTW I can't find "as it was in the days of Sodom and Gomorrah, so shall it be in the days of the coming of the son of man"..that's not really what it says

It says in those days, not in that location, and that they were eating and drinking etc etc...In other words they were going about normal daily routine.

Luk 17:26 And as it was in the days of Noah, so it also shall be in the days of the Son of Man.
Luk 17:27 They ate, they drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage, until the day that Noah entered into the ark; and the flood came and destroyed them all.
Luk 17:28 So also as it was in the days of Lot: they ate, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they built;
Luk 17:29 but the day Lot went out of Sodom, it rained fire and brimstone from the heaven and destroyed them all.
Luk 17:30 Even so it shall be in the day when the Son of Man is revealed.
