Obama Has Really Messed This Up!
It's been a while since I have started a thread from home, and I won't be online long tonight.
Let this be a thread for the AFF record keepers.
The more I think about this, the more I become thoroughly DISGUSTED with the President's handling of Syria!
If he was NEVER willing to go to war, then he should never have made the stupid red line assertion-- or at least had the foresight to clean it up before now!
Syria has crossed that red line in a very bold way. I am convinced that Assad did gas his people. I am convinced that OUR PRESIDENT has been called out by this repulsively wicked muslim leader. It wouldn't shock me if Putin did know about the gas attack before it happened-- but that doesn't even matter!
OUR PRESIDENT has allowed himself, and thus our country, to be embarrassed over Syria.
Hey President Obama! Why don't you grab some stones and SEE that sometimes WAR is the only answer!
He folded!
The President of the United States, punked by an wicked thug desert nazi!
There are reasons and explanations and I have believed and presented them in my best effort to try to see things from our President's point of view, but I am really, really irked by ALL OF THIS!
Someone please tell Obama just how bad of a position he has placed himself and our country in!
Someone please tell "Barry" that there aren't any other options at this point but a STRONG military response to Assad-- destroying his capabilities to deploy chemical weapons!
"Barry", America CANNOT negotiate with terrorists and YOU, Mr. President, are really, really taking us, and maybe even the world, down a very dark and dangerous path!
He is able to and should have used his executive powers to order an attack on Syria last week-- when Kerry was displaying the conviction and resolve of an informed leader.
President Obama, you are doing a very, very, very poor job in the Middle East.
You've given the world an unsure sound! Who told you to the President of the United States of America had the privilege of being able to deliver and unsure sound!
If you were only elected once and not re-elected, then maybe we could say that America didn't really want you as President and that your election was a fluke. No, no, no! You were re-elected because, despite what House Republi-pukes want to shout out, AMERICA WANTS AND TRUSTS YOUR LEADERSHIP!
SO LEAD ALREADY!!!
Will someone please make sure the President of the United States of America and Leader of the Free World gets this message?
I can't think of a time where I've been more ANGRY at our President!
It appears that he hasn't the faintest idea of the DAMAGE his wavering on THE INTERNATIONAL STAGE has done!!!!! NONE WHATSOEVER!
(No, my anger isn't stemming from just one report or criticism I've read or heard. I am convinced that his studder on this issue is more damaging than any political fallout he could have ever experienced if he had just simply followed through on what appeared to be his original decision).
I do believe that the Republicans have played a role in weakening our President, and maybe even weakening him in the sight of our enemies. Regardless, the buck stops with him and at some point, the President s gonna just have to let his political opponents be nasty while displaying clarity and decisiveness.
ATTACK SYRIA TOMORROW! BE PRECISE, BUT GO HARD!
Long enough thread guys?
I'm out.

U.S. military confirms rebels had sarin
Classified document shows deadly weapon found in home of arrested Islamists
As part of the Obama administration’s repeated insistence – though without offering proof – that the recent sarin gas attack near Damascus was the work of the Assad regime, the administration has downplayed or denied the possibility that al-Qaida-linked Syrian rebels could produce deadly chemical weapons.
However, in a classified document just obtained by WND, the U.S. military confirms that sarin was confiscated earlier this year from members of the Jabhat al-Nusra Front, the most influential of the rebel Islamists fighting in Syria.

You do know the WH dossier says our Intel and the President knew 3 days before the attack that one was coming, right?
Quote:
We have intelligence that leads us to assess that Syrian chemical weapons personnel – including personnel assessed to be associated with the SSRC – were preparing chemical munitions prior to the attack. In the three days prior to the attack, we collected streams of human, signals and geospatial intelligence that reveal regime activities that we assess were associated with preparations for a chemical weapons attack.
Syrian chemical weapons personnel were operating in the Damascus suburb of ‘Adra from Sunday, August 18 until early in the morning on Wednesday, August 21 near an area that the regime uses to mix chemical weapons, including sarin. On August 21, a Syrian regime element prepared for a chemical weapons attack in the Damascus area, including through the utilization of gas masks.
|
The WH claimed they knew 3 days prior that there was evidence of an attack and they did nothing. If this is true, Obama and the WH is just as guilty as whomever ordered the attack; Obama and the WH are guilty of the murder of hundreds of adults and children, because they claimed they knew 3 days prior and said/did NOTHING!
Here is the link to the report.... SOURCE LINK

War is never the ONLY answer. Sure, sometimes you have to go to war, but only when it's in our interest. This is a Syrian civil war, I don't know why you warmongers aren't able to understand that.

The Constitution is very clear about this. In this circumstance, Obama does NOT have Constitutional authority to engage in any type of military action. It is either 1) Congress declares war; 2) Congress authorizes action or 3) Strikes are in response to a direct attack on the USA. None of this applies to Syria. Even Obama, Biden, Kerry and Hagel agree when GWB was President. Of course, the rules have changed now that "Barry" is in office.

Ah, yes. Blame the Republicans. Those mean, old, nasty, fat, rich, white Republicans made Obama say Assad has to go, and made him give the dumb red line speech. Yes, those wicked Republicans made him waffle like an IHOP special.

I have never like Bamer and never supported him, until he drew the red line.
In my opinion it was past due. I don't believe he should have waited until CW's were used. I believe he should have acted when the first reports began to come in that he had stopped using police and security forces and started using artillery and gunships. This is the point in time when we shutdown Lybia, why not Syria?
Now, you are right. It is too late now. I don't know what will become of Syria, but I don't think it is going to be pretty. I believe we are now at the mercy of the international community, at least until his term is over.
I also agree the republicans have been less than honorable. We all know that were this a repub pres. they would be on board.
So I have been disappointed long before the chemical attacks. The one question that still has not been answered since the beginning is ; Why Libya, but not Syria?

Re: Obama Has Really Messed This Up!
Yup. He came out with the red line. Notices that it made everyone mad. Then he moved the red line further down a little bit. He should have done what he is doing now from the start. Always start with diplomacy. Then, if that doesnt work, bring the guns out. Its very clear that he is a baphoon

I wouldn't be too sure of that. A couple of things have happened since the last Republican President.
1) People found out the Iraq war was built on lies, and the resulting deaths of US soldiers has left a disdain for war. The so-called intel and pics which Colin Powell famously waved in front of the UN Security Council could have as well been the cartoon section of a Sunday newspaper. From the polling out there, and the statements which have been made by several Republican Congressmen, the war in Iraq has caused a significant shift against further military action in Syria or elsewhere.
2) The election of 2010 could change the Republican party. In the House, the 2010 class were opposed to any intervention 65-5. That election brought us Rand Paul, Justin Amash and other Libertarian-leaning politicians. I doubt even a Republican President could get Congress to approve a strike in Syria.
3) Rise of Libertarianism - there has been a shift towards Libertarian philosophy. Both left and right are united in a common front on the Libertarian principle of civil liberties and foreign policy. Really, the rise of Libertarianism is what has driven the majority to be against any action in Syria.
BTW, the most vocal supporters have been REPUBLICAN - Sen McCain and Sen Graham, Rep King, Rep Rogers, Rep Kinzinger, Rep Boehner, Rep Cantor and others have supported this from the beginning.
So this blame game is nonsense. Have you two even looked at the lack of support Obama's getting from his own party??? Take a look at the Democrats who are against their own President, I think you'd be surprised.

I have seen the lack of support from the Dems, but then again, that is to be expected. The mere existance of the military is against the Democrats doctrine.
The problem with the Iraq war wasn't the lack of WMD's, it was the massive loss of life. I place that blame squarely on the shoulders of Bush. The war was mishandled. He failed to put the necessary assets in place to go in, do the job, and get out.
Again, the question is, where do we go from here? We can say its not our fiight, and I would partially agree. But the fact is, no matter who wins, in the end, it will greatly affect U.S. interest.

That is true.

It was mishandled. They waited too long to do the "surge." IIRC, the Generals on the ground were wanting much more, much sooner; and there were disagreements between the WH and the Generals there on how to wage the war.

Even if I were to put aside my feelings of this being just a Syrian issue and the US shouldn't be involved in other countries civil wars; the likelihood of this escalating into a massive regional conflict is just too high. We have to allow Syria to resolve itself; or for the Arab League to take action. It annoys me to no end that Arab countries around there demand something be done, but won't do it themselves. Oh sure, the WH says they'll be paying for the money we spend firing the missiles, but it's doubtful they would follow through. Remember, the Iraq war was supposed to pay for itself, but ended up costing us a massive amount of money.
