I like the show, because I pick up on some good ideas, but yes some of those people are a bit over the top. Fear should not be a part of prepping...we are not extreme just frugal and careful. We are trying to cover all our bases, but don't plan on living under ground or any other radical ideas. We don't plan on leaving our property,(bug out), we will stay here, because we are older and would not or could not really do well in the "wilderness"... Children or adults need to not have fear, with God and prepping there should not be any fear!

I am so happy to find these good ideas and have folks to share with. We have a very extensive pantry, with nearly everything we need, except the fresh stuff. We are under a lot of very old fir trees and so we are limited on growing fresh things, but sprouting sounds like a good alternative if we need to. Our "over" prepping is because we have several family members that don't prep at all and will depend on us if the time comes. The only sunny place we have is in our driveway so we are going to get half barrels and put wheels on them so we can plant tomatoes, and maybe some lettuce, carrots etc. in them.

The one thing I can't seem to figure out is how to preserve lemons...I would like to can them, but so far it seems my best option is to dry them and seal them.

As far as this last episode goes, the first family were living in a state of fear bordering on terror. They were not too smart either -if your going to stock pile food, you do NOT hoard cans and jars of it. You store the good old freeze dried variety with the 15-25 year shelf life. Canned food simply does not last long enough to warrant having a multi-year supply on hand. It makes sense to have a few months that your constantly rotating through, but not years worth.

The 2nd family was one of the smartest ones ever featured on the show and most likely to survive a total collapse long term. Just moving to Costa Rica (which is something were looking into ourselves down the road) is 75% of the work and as you saw, it is very easy to live off of a couple of acres there.

Yeah, actually, I have been watching back episodes. But, I suppose these shows also have the effect of making preppers look crazy. They do have some good ideas.

Yeah, dehydrating is probably best.

I guess I will have to do that...costco always has a good deal on them, limes too!
