California Vacation Report

A couple of weeks ago I took my family on a trip to Southern California to
visit my brother and sister and to do some sightseeing.
Here is a brief report of my trip with some of the highlights.

Wed night:
Arrived at LAX on Wed night. It was utter chaos in the luggage pickup area,
and especially so outside where the shuttles pick you up to take you to
the rental car locations. Drove to my sister's house in the Loma Linda area.

Thursday:
Took a short day trip over to the mountains. We took a drive up to Mount
Baldy. (I'm not sure if this is part of the San Gabriel range or the San Bernardino range) After our mountain excursion, we drove down to El Monte,
and picked my brother up at his work and headed to Dodger stadium. We
watched the dodgers vs the giants. Wow, that was one roudy crowd, They
sure don't like the Giants in LA.

Friday:
We did a daytrip from my sister house over the Simi Valley and toured the
Reagan library. After finishing here, we took the Malibu Canyon road down
to Malibu, and drove up the coast to Santa Montica. We got on the freeway
in Santa Montica at 4pm, rushhour time on a Friday (won't do that again).
It took us 4 hrs to get back to Loma Linda, only a distance of 80 miles.

Saturday:
My family went down to Hollywood and did a guided tour of Hollywood and
Beverly Hills. I sat this one out.

Sunday:
We went to church with my sister. After church we drove down to San Diego
and stayed at the Sheraton La Jolla. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE La Jolla!!!

Monday:
We spent the morning at La Jolla Cove. This is one of the most beautiful
coastal spots that I know of. It is my favorite coastal spot in Southern
California. (La Jolla is just a few miles north of downtown San Diego)
After lunch we went downtown to San Diego bay and toured the USS
Midway. It is an aircraft carrier that has been turned into an aircraft
carrier museum. After this, we headed up to LAX, since we had hotel
reservations for the Sheraton Gateway at LAX. On the way up we took
the scenic route. We drove through Dana Point, Laguna Beach, and
Newport Beach. Stopped at Fashion Island in Newport and ate at the
Cheesecake factory. Drove up to LAX and checked in hotel.

Tuesday:
Flew back home to Tennessee.

Hi, Monkeyman. I notice you always respond if anything is posted on
California. My half brother and sister have lived there all of my life, so
I have made lots of trip out there over the years. I love California weather.
There is some beautiful scenery there as well. It would be very difficult to
move there and start life anew there. The real estate is way out of sight.

Yeah it is. My husband's brother still lives in Los Angeles. He has family there and in San Diego. I am amazed at what property and utitlity bills are out there. They make awesome salaries but the cost of living is out the roof.

His brother is actually planning to relocate back to the east coast in a couple of years. He is buying property in close to Williamsburg, VA to be near their parents.

Hesetmefree2819,

How did you like the Reagan Museum? Wasn't that awesome how they have Air Force One mounted looking out that giant window over the Valley?

I love the location of that Museum. It is very scenic and the museum is very well done.
