Obama and Israel's pre-1967 Borders
Today, President Obama gave a speech on Middle East Policy.
Among other things he stated that:
1. he wants two states --Israel and Palestine,
2. he wants a contiguous Palestinian state,
3. he wants the Palestinians to recognize Israel's right to exist,
4. he wants the borders to be based on Israel's borders prior to the 1967 war.
Question no. 1: What think ye of these 4 points?
Question no. 2: Do you think Joel 3:1-2 has any application in this situation?
1 For, behold, in those days, and in that time, when I shall bring again the captivity of Judah and Jerusalem, 2 I will also gather all nations, and will bring them down into the valley of Jehoshaphat, and will plead with them there for my people and for my heritage Israel, whom they have scattered among the nations, and parted my land.

Re: Obama and Israel's pre-1967 Borders
1. Have borders as they were prior to '67 war? I disagree. Jerusalem is Israel's.
2. I think Joel's prophecy has absolutely nothing to do with this issue.
Regards!

And Israel will never agree to give up Jerusalem. Obama should understand that. Anyone should understand that.
Very suprising statement.

Re: Obama and Israel's pre-1967 Borders
Now combine this with the previous thread about the "Palastinian protestor invasion".
The US has long been a supporter of Israel. Now to these protesters the US is appearing to not only back away from that support but validify their claims to the land.
Will this statement from the US encourage the protestor invasion ?
Am I the only one who has to wonder what exactly did Obama believe the ramifications of such a statement would be ? Is our president trying to, "stir the pot" ?

Question 1:
I agree with the sentiments of the first three points, but the fourth point is not just a dramatic departure from America's past position regarding Jerusalem, it's just plain foolish of him to make that stand on behalf of America when he should know (by default or by advisors) that America as a whole recognize Jerusalem as belonging to Israel.
Point # 4 really makes me angry.
Question 2:
No, I don't think it's applicable as Israel's land had already been parted out long before this event. Biblical Israel is bigger than modern Israel.
I am really disgusted by our President's stance concerning number 4.

I agree. I am sure the pundits will say he mentioned something about mutual trading of certain areas... but still, just saying this is going to backfire on Obama. He will now be seen as solidly antiIsrael, IMO.

Benjamin Netanyahu is scheduled for a visit with our President tomorrow.
That may have something to do with the timing of the President's statements.
As I watched the speech, I feared he was going to say that the U.S. is right now recognizing Palestine as a state or that he would say we are going to recognize Palestine on 9/11/2011 in honor of the tenth anniversary of the Muslim attacks on America.

The whole thing is warped. No doubt about it.

Netanyahu is correct in that those borders are "indefensible" particularly in this age. Lebanon is overrun by Radicals and are not a friend. Syria is not a friend. Egypt has a new government and we'll have to wait and see, Palestinians hate Israel and have weapons
The only real solution I can see is to carve out a single area of Israel and Jordan (It used to be a part of Jordan before Israel took it) and move them all there from the Gaza strip and give the Strip to Israel.
That way there is no reason to have to travel through Israel and Israel can close her borders if she wants and not have militants on both sides of her.
