No. I'm a little sad about that. But my rear wheel cylinders went out today on the car, so I won't be going very far this weekend, anyway. Thought about going to the church up the street, but I think I'll sleep the New Year in this year instead.

That sounds like a good idea.

I may put something like that together next year.

No...thank goodness!

A New Year's Party might be fun, but then again...I like curling up in bed with my kids and a bowl of popcorn and watching the ball drop.

Re: Does Your Church Have Watch Night Service?

Watch night services are one of my favorite services at our church. We start at 8 and have a message on communion then we take communion, a message on footwashing then we have a footwashing service, then one final message and altar service to bring in the new year. At least that is a rough format. I reckon its needless to say that Pentecostal church services are quite flexible as far as format goes.

Well, our version of a watch night Service was watching the new Year come in while watching The Jerk (with Steve Martin) on Netflix.

Re: Does Your Church Have Watch Night Service?

The Watchnight service was always the highlight of the year for me. I really missed it this year. There's no place I'd rather be or nothing I'd rather be doing than being in church thanking God for His blessings of the old year and asking for strength for the coming year.
Some of the closest moments with God that I can remember have been on New Years Eve. I don't remember ever finding it boring to be in a watchnight service. Someone said it's just a tradition and they did away with it. Tradition is something handed down from one generation to another. In the Bible something like that was called a "Memorial". Some things are valuable and we need to pass them on to future generations.

Re: Does Your Church Have Watch Night Service?

I'm personally suprised at some comments like "Thank God NO we dont have it". To me its apparent either a) they have never been to a watch night service or b)The power of God has never shown up in any watch night service they have attended so they think its just some silly tradition and why even bother to go to church that night.

Either way, last night was was off the chain. We danced so hard I saw heaven! The choir sang us underneath the pews, church was packed full of Saints and Sinners wanting a touch from God, souls ran to the altar and gave their lives to Christ. The Word that was preached was an ontime Word, and we basicaly got out of church at 1:00AM ready to conquer the new year through Jesus Christ our Lord. This is something that I've been doing for the last 18 years of my adult life and I couldnt be anywhere else on New Years Eve than the house of the Lord. I even remember one year getting out of the last church service of that night at 6am in the morning after church hoping in NYC all night long, now that was an experience.

Thanks for participating in the thread. I've come to the conclusion that Watch Night services for the most part are culturally and not the same accross the board (generally speaking).
