If there is something essential pertaining to water baptism's role in your salvation destination, then what is its operation?
Why make such an extended effort to uncouple baptism from forgiveness of sin with speculation involving alternate word choices for 'eis'?
IMO, it is ultimately an effort to relegate water baptism to an act of obedience (a sacrament) by partaking in an outward sign. In doing so, there is no faith in operation by following God's command and provision to the waters of baptism as our response in agreement; passing through, using the way that has been made through water to be separated and to ultimately JUDGE the sin that was our former taskmaster.
Dan would have those who listen to his words, relegate water baptism to something God just invented for us to do,.... just because.
