This is a popular refrain from those with an unpopular viewpoint. However, I am not so sure it is true. You refer to a single incident at a single point in time, but that says nothing about what is "Usually" the case.
Not only that but even if it were true having an unpopular viewpoint doesn't make it true. Hitler's views were unpopular on the world wide stage did that make his views true? People that believe little green men visit the President and direct our policy is not popular either.
