There is a saying about "scholarship" that gets thrown around and morphed into various modes - It goes something like this:

There is no such thing as 'liberal scholarship' and no such thing as 'conservative scholarship:' there is only good scholarship and bad scholarship.

I think D.A. Carson made a statement once along those lines.
