The gal you have described wouldn't look good in that outfit even if she were 30 or 40.
Regardless of one's age, your clothing should fit! 
Why do people (male or female) insist on buying clothing 1 or even 2 sizes too small.
Buy the correct size and you'll actually look thinner.
Maybe TLC's What Not to Wear needs to be a required course!
