Martin Luther King Jr., stated in his "I have a dream" speech that he dreamed of a day when his children would be judged by the content of their character.
I notice Peter telling us that we are called to glory and virtue. It's God's glory we should reflect, but it's virtue, our strength of character that is our we are to added to our faith. I notice that virtue is in the list second. First we must have faith, then we must have strength of character to act on that faith, no matter what the prevailing winds of doctrine blow, what waves of popular opinion rise, or what sweet siren voice of deceit sings into our ear.
Quote:
2 Peter 1:1 - 2 Peter 1:8 (KJV)
1 Simon Peter, a servant and an apostle of Jesus Christ, to them that have obtained like precious faith with us through the righteousness of God and our Saviour Jesus Christ: 2 Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord, 3 According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue: 4 Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.
5 And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge; 6 And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness; 7 And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity. 8 For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Seems the world is lauding fairness over character. And perhaps forgetting character all together.
In the words of Abraham Lincoln:
"Character is like a tree and reputation like a shadow. The shadow is what we think of it; the tree is the real thing."
Is the Church in a decline of Christ-like character within it's ranks?
Are our children being taught the importance of character?
What are the attributes of good character?
How do you see those characteristics exampled in real life, everyday living?
