Actually, I've heard people make that argument before. They say the government uses the threat of taking away the tax exempt status to keep preachers from using the pulpit for political reasons. Doesn't seem to stop some preachers though. Where there's a will there is a way!
Reminds me of the pastor I had during the Bush/Gore campaign battle. He never actually endorsed either candidate. He did, however, say, "If things go the wrong way, it could get pretty gorey. I'm hoping God sets another bush on fire!" Pretty slick, huh?  |
