Anyone can be given O Neg blood but an O Neg person can only receive O Neg blood themselves.
Walt has the blood type that is the universal recipient. A fact for which we are truly grateful considering all that he had to have! The surgeon told me that day that he had requested all of the available blood in our tri-state area and had it sitting in coolers around the walls of the operating room.
I've given 3 gal and am working on the 4th.
That is FABULOUS!!
There is quite a list of restrictions and I just feel like I need to give since so many people cannot.
I still dread the initial prick but I do it anyway.
It's my small contribution to others.
And they give you snacks afterwords.
I really do it for the free cranberry juice!

When we sponsored the blood drive to celebrate Walt's birthday, we decided to serve homemade soups. We ended up serving over 11 crockpots full of soup that day! At one point, 3 of us were making soup to replenish what had been eaten up already!
