Going west is actually a great idea where they are at. I live on the coast, not inland. My are will never see a forest fire...what we get is the smoke and ashes.
Remember folks this is a forest type fire, not an apartment fire. the further west you go in some areas the further you get away from the brush area and the closer you get to nothing but concrete and ocean
