Just some thoughts....

Psalm 3 KJV
1 Lord, how are they increased that trouble me! many are they that rise up against me.
2 Many there be which say of my soul, There is no help for him in God. Selah.
3 But thou, O LORD, art a shield for me; my glory, and the lifter up of mine head.
4 I cried unto the LORD with my voice, and he heard me out of his holy hill. Selah.
5 I laid me down and slept; I awaked; for the LORD sustained me.
6 I will not be afraid of ten thousands of people, that have set themselves against me round about.
7 Arise, O LORD; save me, O my God: for thou hast smitten all mine enemies upon the cheek bone; thou hast broken the teeth of the ungodly.
8 Salvation belongeth unto the LORD: thy blessing is upon thy people. Selah.

Please excuse the fact that I am neither a deep theological thinker, nor a gifted writer. I just wanted to share with you the essence of a conversation my best friend and I had several weeks ago...

As a child of God, having the Lord on my side is such an incredible gift, I can barely begin to fathom its actuality. But it IS real! No matter what we come against literally, physically, spiritually, emotionally, socially, and on and on, Almighty God is there brandishing His power and putting the enemy to flight.

Today, when we apply this concept that the Lord is our Shield, I submit that most of the time we are dealing with our own spiritual or mental battles. I doubt that many times we are actually standing face to face with an enemy who is trying to take our very lives.

Enter the psalmist David...running for his life from his son, Absolom. And this is not the only time David has had to run. (How many times did he flee the wrath of Kind Saul??)

Now THIS, my friends, is what has blessed my soul continuously...

David penned this psalm LITERALLY surrounded by men who wanted to kill him! And yet, he wrote, "I will not be afraid of ten thousands of people, that have set themselves against me round about," and "But thou, O LORD, art a shield for me; my glory, and the lifter up of mine head," and "Salvation belongeth unto the LORD: thy blessing is upon thy people."

What confidence! What complete trust David had in his Lord!

Oh, that I...that we ALL...would have this kind of belief and assurance in the Lord our God when faced with seemingly impossible, or maybe not so impossible, circumstances!

"So shall they fear the name of the LORD from the west, and his glory from the rising of the sun. When the enemy shall come in like a flood, the Spirit of the LORD shall lift up a standard against him." Isaiah 59:19 KJV

Be blessed, all!
