What you have described here are symptoms of PTSD: Posttraumatic Stress Disorder. But I will have to concur that when we are older our long-term memory is what stays with us and our short-term memory goes. For this reason the formative years of our life set the stage for the rest of our lives unless the Holy Spirit heals us of the past abuse, neglect, and abandonment issues.
