Burkhart, Alma Jean age 89 of Troy, OH passed away, Thursday, July 26, 2018. Born February 1, 1929 in Parkersburg, IN to Wilburn and Merttie {Powers} Long, Sr. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, James N. Burkhart, Jr. in April, 2018 brothers, Virgil, Charles, David, Wilburn Jr., Elvin and Joseph Long. Alma is survived by her son, David E. and his wife Diane Burkhart, Troy, OH, sister, Lois Jane Long, Crawfordsville, IN, grandchildren, Kelli Layne (John) Barnes, Maineville, OH, David Andrew (Holly) Burkhart, Dayton, OH and great grandchildren, Charlotte and Luke Barnes.
Alma was a graduate of New Market High School, New Market, IN and Indiana Central Business College. She also studied courses at Edison Community College as well as, a home study course with the Institute of Children’s Literature. She was employed by Central Indiana Distributing Corp., Indianapolis, IN, Plastene Corp., Crawforsville, IN, Army Audit Agency, Columbus, OH, and Ballou Industries, Columbus, OH. Alma also volunteered at Riverside School, Troy, OH from 1983-1990.
She had two children’s books published in October 2013, many other stories, songs and poems. Alma was a pastor’s wife at Apostolic Church of Jesus Christ, Tipp City 1967-2006. She served as secretary, bookkeeper, Sunday school teacher, leader of ladies group and any other place there was a need. Alma took pride in being a homemaker, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and a faithful companion to her husband.
Funeral service, Wednesday, August 1, 2018 at 2:00 PM at FRINGS AND BAYLIFF FUNERAL HOME, 327 W. Main St., Tipp City, OH 45371; Pastor Eric Meade, officiating. Burial to follow in Maple Hill Cemetery, Tipp City, OH. Visitation, Tuesday, July 31st, 5:00 to 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
