That's General Wesley Clark. Disinformation? What are you, a conspiracy theorist? lol
Anyway, that wasn't quite what I was referring to. Shrub had mentioned an 'axis of evil' long before, the Axis of Evil (led by Dr Evil himself? lol) included Iran, Syria, Libya, and North Korea. We have already taken out Libya, now we are working on destabilising Syria. Iraq and Afghanistan were related adventures to surround Iran. North Korea is waiting in the wings.
We still have to complete operations in Syria, deal with Iran, and deal with North Korea. The endgame appears to be blocking the Sino-Russian power block, or at least setting things up for the Big Confrontation that everyone in the know seems to think is coming sooner or later - the 'Showdown with China' for global dominance.
It's not just about 'invading', it's about destabilising regimes and replacing power structures and alliances. By overthrowing secularised, 'moderate' and stable governments in the Arabic world and replacing them with whack-job extremist Islamist governments (as in Libya and as we are trying to do in Syria, as we attempted in Egypt - although there seems to have been a backlash to a degree there...) we maintain control over resources in the region. The nations involved do not 'progress' in general, they are kept in a medieval condition of instability and stupidity while their Muslim Brotherhood frontmen rape the country of resources, which accrue to our benefit as we use them for tools to further destabilise the area for Israel. Israel actually benefits from radical Muslim governments because such governments are unable to move their countries into the 21st century technology and education wise. This keeps them on the level of 'bad dog' instead of 'cunning wolf', and is thus paradoxically a lesser threat to western interests in the area.
Which is the same game Russia played in the area back in the day, creating Islamist front groups to destabilise otherwise secular and moderate governments. Meanwhile, the actual governments allied to them tended to be moderate, secular socialist governments (Iraq, Libya, Syria, etc) thus promoting Russian interests in the region.
Those moderate governments were recognizing the future power of the Brics (Sino-Russian) block and needed to be taken out.
Of course, in geopolitics, every operation and engagement has multiple purposes. I think part of the apparent inbecility of our policies in the region may be due to the fact that our government has been hijacked a long time ago and is not actually pursuing American interests, although many in .gov think they are.
