In the parable of the master inviting people to the banquet, the original plan of the master was to invite certain people and they (by their own will/excuses) refused to come. So plan B was to go out in to the highways and biways and compel others to come in and feast. But that was not his original plan. I believe he had a plan to expose their hearts knowing they would have excuses for not attending. Same scenario as the rich, young ruler.
