John 3:34

John 3:34 is a verse among several in the last part of that 3rd chapter of John where John the Baptist was asked about Jesus. In verse 25 John was asked a question. His answer is found in the following verses. It is not clear to me whether his answer stops and the Apostle John adds comment or if these are all the words of John the Baptist.

The verse I am wondering about says: "For he whom God hath sent speaketh the words of God: for God giveth not the Spirit by measure unto him."

The words "unto him" are in italics which meant they are not in the original but were added by the translators for clarity.

A note in my Bible here, not sure where I heard it or read it, says:
"The Jews said that the prophets received a portion or certain measure of the Spirit. The full measure was reserved for the Chosen One."

What think ye?
