That's a little disingenuous, attempting to make the assumption that the Democratic party of the 1860's even remotely resembles the Democratic Party of the 2000's. It was the states-rights, small government party -- and even much of his own party (Whigs) -- that opposed abolition laws. Even Abe himself didn't seek out to be the one to get rid of slavery. I've read far too many Abe Lincoln biographies to accept a drive-by comment like this.
