Part of what makes Sarah Palin so attractive to conservatives is that she doesn't come across as a pretender on some of those key issues. I'm aware that many Republican politicians say they are Pro-life, but they never prop it up with a voting record. It's important that you look into a politician's background and see what he's actually proposed and/or voted for or against. Obviously, attempts count, even if they get voted down.
On the flip side, I can't in good conscience support someone who openly supports partial-birth abortion, for instance. It is so immoral, so criminal, so utterly debased, that no matter what other great policies a person may espouse, that one thing will knock them off the block for me.
I have to say, tstew, there is a lot more crud on the Democratic side of the fence. JMO. Immoral, criminal, corrupt, anti-religious, anti-family, socialistic, dishonest...it's all there, and it's not even hidden, because most aren't ashamed--apparently it's something to crow about. You start looking into candidates' backgrounds, and you will usually find more problems with the Democratic candidates. Not always, but usually.
One of the things that bothered me during the last election was the focus on John McCain's relationship with his first wife. First of all, they had to go back
28 years to find a scandal. That, in and of itself, is comical. Secondly, who digs up divorces? How many members of Congress are on their second (or subsequent) marriages? That was it? That was the extent of their attacks on McCain? He's been married now to his second wife for 29 years, with four children--that's pretty successful, especially for a second marriage. Plus, liberals aren't supposed to care how many times people want to get married or have affairs or.... But apparently, when it's a Republican candidate--they suddenly become the moral police. The inconsistency is laughable.

For Sarah Palin, they couldn't find anything scandalous on HER, morally speaking, so they had to bring her daughter's morals into it. And they tried to make it STICK--in such a way that leads us to believe that if the child of a liberal get's pregnant out of wedlock, the parents are to blame. What's hilarious about this liberal logic is that they don't CARE If your kids are having
sex outside of marriage; they just make fun and cry foul whenever a
pregnancy results.
The Kennedy family was one of the most corrupt in American history, and yet they have been embraced for decades as "royalty" by the left. Are there similar "families" with political clout on the right, with similar stories of corruption?
I agree that the Democrats vs. Republicans is a dividing line that is not always that clean cut. However, when you start delving into extreme left-hand politics, you start stepping in all sorts of muck, and that's a fact. I'm not sure how you can get around that in a voting booth. Most republicans, while many of them have their hands tied behind their backs, at least are dependable when it comes to how they vote in certain circumstances. Many liberal politicians are to be feared, because their politics threaten our way of life--pro-family, pro-life, freedom of religion, freedom of speech, etc.
