Ferd, lets say your wife and you are with child. The doctors find a cancerous mass in her uterus. Odds are that your wife will miscarry. The mass will consume nutrients that the child needs creating a high probability that if the child does survive, it will be profoundly deformed and handicapped. Carrying the child until she miscarries or carrying it to term could also prevent them from treating the cancerous mass, leaving a high probability that the cancer will spread and after the miscarriage or birth your wife will have few options for treatment and will most likely die. The doctors on staff are divided. One argues that she will most likely miscarry and aborting is preferable to treat the cancer. One doctor states that there is a chance that the child might be unaffected and carrying it to term or until miscarriage is a viable option and that there is a good chance that the cancer will not spread and they will be able to treat it after the child is born. Your wife has a choice to make...
Carry the child to term or until she miscarries....risking the spread of the cancer (possibly killing her) and sever deformity in the child.
Or carry the child to term and see if the cancer can be treated.
Do you want the two of you to make that choice (regardless of what you might choose to do) or the Government?
