I think I got the answer I was looking for. He mentioned that in Spain, for instance, the chance of recovering without hospitalization is 95%. He also said that in a place I can’t remember but in USA (I think it was NY), your chance is 92%.
So the problem of this virus is hospitalization, not the death rate. Flu hospitalization rate of symptomatic cases in USA is 1.8% according to the data from CDC. COVID hospitalization rate is 100-92 in USA and 100-95 in Spain, basically 8%-5%, which is a lot higher.
It makes sense also from the initial news from China when they informed to the WHO that they were seeing an abnormal increase of pneumonia hospitalizations.
I definitely agree with those doctors regarding strategy, though.
I am glad we are getting more data and having a better understanding of this.
