Newt is the one who helped Republicans take control of Congress and advanced the Contract With America with it's Reaganite ideas. It was this very same Republican Congress that held Clinton's feet to the fire and helped balance the budget.
I don't see how anyone can call Newt a Liberal. Ask a true Liberal what they think of Newt and you'll get them spitting and cussing. The man is the only candidate running who reflects anything close to the ideals we saw with Ronald Reagan.
I suggest reading Newt's book, Winning The Future: A 21st Century Contract with America . This book clearly explains the policies Gingrich has considered and why he believes they are good ideas. The ideas are solidly conservative.
Essentially Newt Gingrich has led Congress and helped steer the entire nation already. If anyone knows what is necessary to get things done in Washington... it's Gingrich.

I agree that all men are flawed. And I believe that every man will be tempted by something. Gingrich says that his extra-marital affairs are because he was working too hard and too much. Fine, I think that you can be tired and make bad choices. I think that you could meet someone that could be the trial of your life in that department, but when you actually lay down with the person, you've lost the battle and I think that disqualifies him as President - three times? Please.
The GOP has always been held to a higher standard. Do I believe God forgives? You better believe that I do! But, I also believe when you violate that higher standard, you disqualify yourself from that higher position. That includes me, you, and my dog named Blue.
When this higher standard no longer matters to the GOP, it's time for a third party. And if that is our choice, I think we deserve another four years of Obama.
I heard someone this past weekend on David Gregory's show say that the GOP has lost their "soul" when they no longer hold to a higher standard. Someone else went on to say that we are so used to hearing about political sexual scandals that we are no longer shocked and are more apt to accept it as status quo - just like what you are doing here, Aquila.
These are the political reasons I am against Newt.

Gingrich Redux?
But is Gingrich the savior the GOP has been yearning for, as the party lurches from one flavor-of-the-month contender to the next? Gingrich, of course, has an impressive political résumé, particularly his 1994 Contract with America. But he also has, to borrow Tim Pawlenty’s term, some significant “clunkers” in his record that conservatives may want to consider before settling on Gingrich as the man of the hour. In no particular order, here are ten items in Gingrich’s record that might give conservatives pause:
