So the closer we get to 1st Century Christians, the people living within a generation's ear of the Apostles -- we just throw it out because some cutesy little "the crowd isn't always right" ingenuous remark?

Right or not, they show us a picture of how believers viewed themselves in relationship to the world around them. I'm not sure I can support that they are "wrong."
