Mental illness is a serious issue. It is my opinion however, that if humans would make better decisions, then sometimes that mental illness would never manifest itself.
This goes for Christians and non-Christians.
Why should a person relinquish their right to experience happiness? Why do humans do the things that humans do?

That is a valid point. However, it's not always decisions that cause mental illness, life changing events can be the cause as well.

Agreed.
Most life changing events are not exactly planned for, opening the door for mental illness.
I guess I can only speak from personal experience-- from what I've witnessed in the lives of other and what I have experienced myself.
Sometimes, we just don't like the taste of the fruit we have planted and blame it on mental illness.

Life changing events cause stress. Stress is not a mental illness.

That is great to hear. Too few people are savvy with nutrition. Between you & "them" I trust you much more.

I'll get a little more specific. If one has an anxiety disorder, stress may trigger an unwanted reaction. People with anxiety disorders have different threshholds for coping.

For the purposes of the study you quoted even the depression that can accompany losing one's job is a "mental illness."
I suppose in some sense these researchers might consider "the sniffles" as a physical "illness," and technically it is. And so, the "stress" and its effects that hits each of us throughout our lives might be seen as a "mental illness" when we're being so generous in applying the term.

Try to follow this discussion of mandatory evals for post partum depression.
Quote:
In 2006, the Governor of New Jersey signed legislation requiring health-care professionals who provide prenatal care to educate women about postpartum depression (“PPD”) and to see that new mothers receive treatment for the disorder. Then, in a press release, it was stated that 80% of women experience some degree of depression following childbirth. And, most recently, both Illinois and Pennsylvania are also attempting to get similar legislation passed as well.
Not to be outdone, in the United States Senate, Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) has slipped a controversial bill called The Mothers Act into an omnibus package called "Advancing America's Priorities Act" (S.3297). The legislation, as first enacted in New Jersey, would require pregnant and new mothers across the U.S. to be screened and treated because they are deemed to be at risk for mental disorders. Senator Robert Menendez (D-NJ) jumped on the bandwagon, proudly proclaiming that, "We must attack postpartum depression on all fronts with education, screening, support, and research so that new moms can feel supported and safe rather than scared and alone."
Fortunately, S.3297 stalled in the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pension (HELP) committee for months

Here is a person hysterically arguing for drugging up new moms with perinatal depression.
Quote:
Have these people not seen the research? Do they not know that women with untreated postpartum depression can go on to have chronic depression for the rest of their lives? Do they not know that women with untreated depression during pregnancy are twice as likely to have pre-eclampsia, twice as likely to have a C-section, twice as likely to have a preterm delivery and twice as likely to have their baby go to NICU? Do they know the odds of developmental delay for children whose mother’s illness goes on and on and on and on? Do they not know that suicide as a result of postpartum mood disorders is the leading cause of death for women postpartum in the US?
|
Postpartum hemorrhage (PPH), or severe bleeding after birth is treated with an injection of Pitocin. Post partum moms have a lot of chemical changes that happen rapidly.
Percocet, Morphine, Oxycodone and Hydrocodone after the c-section for pain and addiction comes next.
Progesterone and Estrogen fall by 90% to 95% in the first 48 hours after delivery so then start the Tricyclics such as brand names Elavil, Norpramin, Tofranil, Aventyl and Pamelor for "rebalancing moods"
Both the baby going on a bottle and mommy going on a bottle of enhancement products.
I am not against medication. I do not deny there are even a few cases of post partum psychosis.
