I did. God really showed me a lot of different thoughts through that messsage.

From what it sounds like, the majority of this forum believe it's okay to be dishonest in preaching, just not in writing.

The ethics surrounding pulpit plagiarism, then, are not simple, but a good bit of clarity is achieved, I think, when we keep two factors in focus. The first is truthfulness. "Plagiarism," writes Richard A. Posner in The Little Book of Plagiarism, "is a species of intellectual fraud." Posner goes on to name the two key ingredients of fraud in every act of plagiarism: one, somebody copies something and then claims ("whether explicitly or implicitly, and whether deliberately or carelessly") that these words are his or her original composition; and two, this deception causes the readers (or hearers) of these words to act differently than they would if they possessed the truth...

Giving credit to others is not merely a matter of keeping our ethical noses clean; it is also a part of bearing witness to the gospel...

Only preachers who deliver their own sermons stand with one foot in the life of the people and one foot in the biblical text. No Internet preacher stands in this same place. No borrowed sermon, however fine, can answer the question that cries out from every congregation, "Is there a word today, a word for us, from the Lord?" This is not the same as saying that sermons must be fully original. All preachers borrow from others, and should. There is a difference between being a debtor and being a thief. All preachers stand on the shoulders of biblical scholars, theologians, and faithful witnesses from across the generations. We do not owe our congregations an original essay; we owe them a fresh act of interpretation.

I've attempted an explanation of that numerous times.

Why did you feel it necessary to tell a friend you are preaching his message?
"Because he's my friend."

That's not the real "reason." Being a friend is only part of it. We don't feel obligated to tell friends random things. He felt preaching the friend's sermon would have been strange maybe? Inappropriate? Maybe he had a good reason why -- but that's where I'm going. Asking him to elaborate.

That's about the same response as "because I said so." Forgive me for following up to that.

Sure. Only one other poster has really come out and blasted plagiarism in the pulpit. Everyone else gave examples of why it's okay. Evidence enough? I disclaim "from what it sounds like." Not too sure. Maybe a poll is good here. But first, I'm trying to see how others even define plagiarism.

Everyone has blasted plagarism as far as I've seen, what makes you call what they are defending plagirism?

But why did you not feel those responses answered your question? Why did you feel there needed to be more elaboration?

2) Let's step away from the claims against JF then and talk about plagiarism in the pulpit.

4) Let's attempt to define it. Enter: Webster dictionary, legal dictionary.
response: My opinion trumps that. And when you ask me why I say, "well that's my opinion. Have your own." And then get upset of course when someone wants to engage such lame responses.
