Planning an Alaskan Cruise for 40 Years!!!

I have booked a seven day cruise to Alaska, in August to celebrate 40 years of partnership with my incredible wife!! Also, to celebrate the graduation of our final child from college!!! Three college graduates!!!

Our two married children and their spouses are moving in to care for their oldest brother who is special needs, for the time we are away. Isn't that awesome??

Would love to hear some of your stories of Alaskan cruises, what shore excursions you have enjoyed, etc. etc.

Dude, did you get married when you were like eight years old? You don't look old enough to be celebrating a 40th wedding anniversary.

Re: Planning an Alaskan Cruise for 40 Years!!!

We absolutely LOVED our Alaskan cruise !!!! We hope to do it again someday !

If at all possible, I would highly suggest that you book a balcony room. It is well worth the extra expense! A lot of cruise lines are offering specials right now.... It was so neat to be able to sit on our balcony and see all the beautiful scenery. We slept with the balcony sliding door open every night - awesome to hear the waves and we were fortunate to have a full moon and could see some of the mountains/scenery even from our bed. So excited for you!

Make sure you have a good camera and have learned how to use it properly. DH had gotten a new camera just a few weeks before we left and he missed some awesome shots because the settings were wrong - BUT, he DID get more than enough awesome shots!

What cruise line are you going on - and what itinerary do you have? Inside Passage? Hopefully you will cruise Glacier Bay.

I'm getting the itch to go again, just writing this post! It was fabulous!

Re: Planning an Alaskan Cruise for 40 Years!!!

So the thread title says "Planning an Alaskan Cruise for 40 years". What sort of mad disagreements did you and your wife have that took so long to work out? Did you want to originally go to Japan and her to Florida and couldn't decide how to compromise from there?

LOL

Heh, you didn't know? He took her to Alaska the first time on their 20th anniversary. He's going back now, on the 40th to get her! That's how you celebrate all those years.

We debated a bit about the balcony, but decided that it would be worth the extra expense. We are going on the Sapphire Princess of the Princess Lines, the Inside Passage, a queen balcony on next to the top deck. We fly to and depart from Seattle, Ports of Call are Ketchikan, cruise the Tracy Arm Fjord, Juneau, Skagway then Victoria, British Columbia and back to Seattle. I don't know if we cruise Glacier Bay, I will check. But I know we visit the Mendenhal Glacier.

We cruised to the Bahamas in the mid eighties, and we really enjoyed it, we have had Alaska in our thoughts for some time, just had to do some kid raising first!! LOL

That was a intentional play on words, wondered who would notice first, you get the prize!! We had to do some kid raising, educating, and building a special needs day program for 25 special needs adults that have aged out of school. www.coventryreserve.org
