I believe a huge problem in all strains of Christianity that flow from the Wesleyan Holiness movement is a skewed view of our role in the salvation process. There seems to be an idea that we somehow "help" God do the work.
This is particularly evident in the Oneness Pentecostal notion that it's "better to be safe than sorry." I see this as nothing more than unbelief and legalism. God's word is plain. It's clear. No one should threaten believers with Hell over standards that are not clearly based in scripture.
"Better to be safe than sorry" is an insult to God. It creates an atmosphere of fear and confusion that leads to unnecessary yokes. It fosters a works-based, humanistic view of salvation. It replaces the grace of Jesus with doctrines of men.
Obey the Word. That's the only safe way to live, and you'll be sorry if you don't do it.
