Reasons a pastor would take a 3 month break
And not attend his church during this time either?
Can anyone think of anything?
I've visited a church 2 weeks in a row. The first week, the pastor wasn't there. Ok, he's out of town. No big deal. But tonight, he was there before service and I met him. But then not there for service, and the guy who preached mentioned that the pastor has been taking a break all summer.

Take a break from what? Everyone knows pastors have the cushiest jobs on the planet. Preach 2 maybe 3 times a week. How hard can that be? Why, its so easy a caveman can do it....

"Honestly, we didn't know you guys were still around."
"Well maybe you should have done a little research."

The whole summer might be much, but I know of several pastors who take a whole month off. I think it is well deserved, a great time to focus on his family. Many preachers kids lack the attention on their pastor fathers. What does it profit him if he saves the world and loses his family. JMO

I don't see anything wrong with taking a month off, but Eddie would never do it. We have tried a couple of times to take two weeks vacation, but by the second Sunday, he's going nutso, and has to get home. I would think you would really lose touch if you were gone a whole summer. But I know lots of people do it.

I should add that I don't have a problem with a preacher taking a break from preaching. There seems to be an abundance of men in this church who can step in and take care of that. No big deal.
But, why would you not even attend your own church? That I don't get.

Re: Reasons a pastor would take a 3 month break
I knew a pastor of a larger church that wanted to take a vacation, but he felt that the church wouldnot survive. As he tells the story, he was praying about what he should do and asked the Lord who would take care of the church when he was on vacation! He says the Lord told him "The same one that takes care of it when you are home!" Needless to say, he went on vacation, the church survived and is still God's church!

Actually, I have a GREAT respect for pastors who actually put their family ahead of the church and are willing to take a break from preaching/church attendance.

yeah and a saint does that and he is considered backslidden.
BTW I wonder if that same pastor would be alright with a sunday school teacher or music minister taking a month off then coming back to the same position

- Every sinner must repent of their sins.
- That Jesus name baptism is the only biblical mode of water baptism.
- That the Holy Ghost is for today and is received by faith with the initial evidence of speaking in tongues.
- The saint will go on to strive to live a holy life, pleasing to God.

Actually Prax,
That is a great idea! It avoids burnout in the staff!
